We Need Your Questions!

The Host Movie News is headed to LA tomorrow to participate in interviews with the cast of The Host and we will be on the red carpet at the LA premiere on Tuesday.

If you have a question for anyone in the cast, including Stephenie Meyer and Andrew Niccol, please post it in the comments section.  I asked for some questions for Chandler, Max, and Jake when I interviewed them on Tuesday and I did use your questions.  We would like to have some interesting questions that have not already been asked multiple times before in all of the interviews we have seen thus far.

You can also tweet or Facebook us a question, just make sure to say who the question is for.

Thank you!

For all: you know Latin America? could send greetings to their fans there?

  • Megan

First, ask a question that they don’t hear often. One outside of the movie. I know, watching interviews, they get asked the same questions OVER AND OVER. Ask them things outside of the movie. Here are a few questions:

Anyone: What was the most memorable day on set?
Anyone: Were there any scenes you had filmed that didn’t make it into the movie that you were looking forward to watching?

  • Megan

Anyone: Were there any scenes you had filmed that didn’t make it into the movie that you were looking forward to watching?

  • Megan

Chandler: From a kids point of view, what was the funnest thing on set to do besides film? Who was the funnest cast member to hang with or who did you hang out with the most?

  • Megan

Jake: You’ve had some pretty villain-type characters in the past. You’ve played a teenager that beat the crap out of a man, you play a somewhat-villain in Percy Jackson. How was it to finally play the good guy?

  • Megan

Saoirse: What’s your favorite book adaptation that’s been released within the last few years?

  • Ashley Wong

Anticipating that there will be a sequel novel and therefore movie, what do you want to see happen for your characters and overall, the human race amidst this alien invasion world forged in “the Host”?

    • Megan

      Nice one. 🙂

  • Ashley Wong

Jake (because I love his answers in all the press he’s done so far) How do you think “The Host” succesfully merges the two genres of sci-fi and romance? What is it about Stephenie’s writing and stories that make it so appealing to such a wide audience?

  • Megan

Anyone: The world that Stephanie created was taken to the next level by Andrew. He changed how the seekers dressed, how the souls dressed and not the world in its entirety, but a few big things. How had you pictured that world while reading the book, and would you have done anything different?

  • Megan

Saoirse: Wanda is a soul, and souls don’t display much emotion. What emotion was it that you as a person would normally have chosen to display that was hardest to cover up while playing Wanda?

  • – How was it to work with ***** (Pet)? And maybe compared to Saoirse, as they play the same character.

    – To Stephenie: Will there be any “love conflicts” in the sequel?/What genre would you say the sequel is, compared to The Host?

    – To Stephenie: Did you get inspired by any movies and/or books when you wrote The Host?

    – Do you have any outlines for The Soul (if that’s what it’s called)?

  • Jen H.

To Andrew: Many of the fans are skeptical and disappointed that things have been changed in the movie, especially the actors. Very few actors actually resemble their character description in the book. It is my understanding that when casting the actors you chose to focus on their skill as opposed to their features, which I respect you for greatly. But why didn’t you at least decide to slap a wig on the Seeker? Or dye Jakes hair black? Why not at least do that?

    • Luna

I think this one is a bit obvious. From what I’ve seen Andrew seems to have gone for a light, serene look in the movie – making the distinction between souls and humans (and the fact that they are gentle and peaceful).

  • Sia

Where would you like to see your characters go and to Max and Jake what did you love most traveling with Stephenie Meyer ?

  • Jen H.

To Andrew: Many scenes have been added to the movie that were not originally in the book. I understand you had to basically summarize a 600 page novel but some might argue that instead of adding brand new scenes, why did you just try to squeeze in more scenes that were already in the book?

    • Jen H.

*Why didn’t you just try to squeeze in more scenes that were already in the book?* TYPO

  • Jen H.

To Stephenie: How difficult has it been to write the sequel knowing that there are things Andrew came up with for the movie that you wish you’d written about in the first book? Are you going to trying incorporate Andrew’s ideas into the sequel?

    • Jen H.

*Are you going to try and incorporate Andrew’s ideas into the sequel* TYPO

    • Ashley

      oooh I like this one!

  • Jen H.

To Andrew/Stephenie: When it comes to the film score, what was the process like trying to find the right composer?

  • Jen H.

To Max: Many people are ‘Team Ian.’ This is your chance to convince us otherwise. Why should we be ‘Team Jared?’ Justify Jared’s rash actions in the film. Why do you think he does what he does?

  • Clara L.

Do you have any movie projects coming up? (For example, I heard Saoirse was playing in How I Live Now)

  • Jen H.

To Andrew: Now that you have successfully made a film based off of a novel, assuming the experience was a positive one, have you begun to explore different books you’d love to make into movies? Which ones?

  • Jen H.

To Stephenie: When the souls inhabit Earth, it is at peace. There are no wars, no hunger, no suffering, and no serious conflict. You would think it is the perfect place to live. But arguably you could say suffering and joy coexist. Without suffering you cannot recognize real joy. You cannot know what it is like to finally be at peace unless you’ve experienced turmoil, pain, and heartache. So if the souls live in a utopia, how do they discover peace and joy?

  • Jen H.

To any/all: Is it war that brings out the worst in men or is it the worst in men that brings on war?

What would be a soul’s response to this question?

  • Jen H.

To Max: After the invasion, Jared hadn’t spoken to another human being in two years. When he came across Melanie, his initial reaction is to kiss her. If YOU hadn’t experienced any human interaction in two years, what would your initial reaction be?

  • Megan

Stephanie: You’ve mentioned before that your writing process is long and detailed. Have you tried other ways and proven this way works best?

  • Jen H.

Wha! I am full of typos today! I hope you can catch and fix them for me before you pose the questions. That’d be an embarrassing stumble…

  • Megan

All cast: Have you listened to any of the music from the soundtrack? What’s your favorite song?

  • Megan

All cast: Reading the book for the first time, which character (Other than your own) enthralled you?

  • Jen H.

To Andrew: Stephenie often says that she never writes with a main message in mind. Instead she leaves that up to the reader’s own discreation. So for you, what is the main message of The Host and do you feel you successfully made that message known in the film?

  • Megan

All cast: Has there been a film released in the last year you’ve seen that left you thinking? Which one?

  • Megan

Max, Jake, Saoirse, Andrew: Which scene did you find the most difficult to film whether it be physical, mental, or emotional?

  • Megan

Cast: There aren’t many thins to do in the middle of nowhere, but What things did you do when you weren’t filming?

  • Megan

Stephanie: How do you pronounce Ian and Kyle’s last name, O’Shea? I’s been pronounced by several different ways. When creating the character, how did you pronounce it?

    • Megan

      *It’s been pronounced

  • Krazykira

Chandler: If put in the same position as Jamie, having an alien inhabit someone you love, would you accept them as Jamie does?

  • beluchisss

To the cast: what are the similarities with his character?

  • Megan

All cast: There are times when you are very similar to your characters, but what scenes took major acting because you’re the complete opposite?

  • Megan

All cast: What was the average temperature while filming?

  • Megan

Saoirse: Was it ever awkward leading up to the intimate scenes or did you all just have fun with it?

  • Megan

Jake: Which scene had you done with Saoirse during Auditions?

  • Megan

Saoirse: Was there a favorite outfit that you got to where in the movie that you wish you could wear outside of the film?

  • Megan

Jake: You’ve mentioned that your favorite scene was the one where Ian and Wanda go on their “First Date”. Besides the feel on the set that day, What about that scene made it your favorite?

  • Megan

Jake and Max: What was your favorite weapon you got to use in the movie?

  • Megan

Chandler: What was it like to be able to hold/use a gun in the movie?

  • Megan

ALL: is there a book that hasn’t been made into a film that you would like to see made into a movie?

  • Neha

Saoirse: In the book, there many internal conversations between Melanie and Wanda, how was this experience for you in this movie? Also, who’s your favorite between Wanda and Melanie?

  • Ashley Wong

Ask Jake Abel (beause I heart him) – Is there any pressure playing a character in a book that is read and beloved by so many? Would you ever refer to Stephenie’s material as a reference when developing your character (on or off set)?

  • Ashley Wong

The movie touches a lot on the issue body image and how we perceive our bodies, as an actor, has there ever been an audition or project that you worked on where you felt like you could have successfully performed but you just didn’t meet the physical criteria of the character?

    • Ashley

Let me rephrase the question: Ask Saiorse Jake or Max: The movie touches a lot on the issue body image and how we perceive our bodies, as an actor, was there ever an audition that you went into where the casting directors told you that you performed the material flawlessly but you just didn’t meet the physical criteria of the character?

  • Ashley Wong

Saiorse Max or Jake: What was it like filming at a studio as well as on actual sites located in these beautiful scenic locations? Did filming on site (versus entirely in studio) help you conceptualize Andrew Nichool’s “Host” world and your performance in any way?

  • Ashley Wong

The Host is a completely re-telling of an alien invasion, can you tell us what elments of other sci fi movies or novels you drew from to help portray the telling of your character in the HOST world?

  • Ashley Wong

How do you think you will cope if the HOST reaches the same level of attention that other big block buster hits The Hunger Games and the Twilight Saga have received?

  • Ashley Wong

Stephenie: Following the success of your previous work, did you feel there was a lot more pressure to live up to the success of the Twilight Saga when writing the HOST?

    • Ashley

Rephrase: Did you feel a tremendou amount of pressure when writing the HOST to live up to the success of the Twilight series?

  • Katerina.Loves.Max.A.Milion

What was the most difficult side of your character to portray and why? How did you overcome the obstacle?

  • Katerina.Loves.Max.A.Milion

If you could go back and make a major plot twist to The Host, what would you change?

  • Melanie

Saoirse: Did you prefer portraying Melanie or Wanda? Why? Who do feel you have more in common with?

  • Melanie

to anyone: Who do you think from the cast is most like the character he/she portrays?

  • Skylar

To Max and Jake: I don’t know if this question has been asked a million times, but were there any pranks on set if there were what were the best ones? Also what were some of the best memories behind the scenes?

  • JMT2cu

To The Movie Makers: Why can’t they have a screening somewhere in the Northwest?!?…
