Alyssa Reeder, from Teen Vogue, tweeted @alliewood with this article:

“When you meet Jake Abel, it’s clear he’s a movie star – tall, handsome, boyishly charming. It would be easy for the 25-year-old actor, closet musician, and self-proclaimed romantic to get by on his good looks and quick-witted sense of humor. But thankfully, Jake isn’t one to take any shortcuts. The Ohio native, who plays Ian O’Shea, one of the rebel humans caught in a love triangle in Stephenie Meyer and Andrew Niccol’s new postapocalyptic drama The Host, says, “You have to put in that effort and not just take everything that’s handed to you.” Wary of being typecast for his back-to-back-to-back sci-fi roles (Percy Jackson & The Olympians: The Lightning Thief in 2010 and I Am Number Four in 2011), Jake works hard to let his talent speak for itself. “It’s important that I spend time showing people I’m more than just this one thing. The reason I do these genre films is because of the people behind them – the writers, directors, and actors in this movie [costars include Saoirse Ronan, Diane Kruger, and Max Irons] are all fantastic.” It seems that for Meyer, who created the character of Ian, the admiration is mutual. “Jake is hilarious and easygoing when the camera isn’t rolling, and then very intense and charismatic when it is,” she explains. “He does such a great job pulling together one of the most complicated figures in the story. I’d happily put up with him even if he weren’t as nice as he is.”

I’m glad to hear such praise from Stephenie for Jake and his portrayal of Ian. She comments that Ian is one of the more complicated characters of the book, and I couldn’t agree more. 🙂 Perhaps that’s why we’re such great fans of Mr. Ian O’Shea. Anybody excited to see Jake as Ian?
