Diane Kruger Will Be The Seeker

It has just been announced through Deadline that Diane Kruger will be The Seeker in The Host.  The Seeker “is charged with overseeing the conversion of a young rebel soldier (Ronan) whose consciousness has been infiltrated by Wanderer, a soul that has taken control of bodies and minds but who is daunted by the young human’s spirit, and obsessed with the memories of her boyfriend and her brother, and sets out to track them down. The Seeker pursues her, knowing that the conversion of the rebel will lead to the discovery and eradication of the rebel movement.”

Diane Kruger was born July 15, 1976 and is of German descent.  Her breakout role in the US was as Helen of Troy in Troy alongside Orlando Bloom, Brad Pitt, and Eric Bana.  She was most recently seen in Unknown with Liam Neeson.  She is currently in a relationship with Joshua Jackson.

It should also be noted that Diane Kruger was up for a lead role in Oblivion, but took herself out of the running and took The Host role instead.

What does everyone think about Diane Kruger playing The Seeker?  We are coming up on filming beginning in less than a month, so I expect more casting news soon.  We still have a few characters left to complete the cast.

  • Wow!! She’s one of my favorite actresses! I can’t believe they got her on board for this!! WOW!!! My expectations of this movie is getting higher and higher!!

    • Cumbertbatch

I can’t believe they got Andrew Niccol and Saoirse Ronan on board for this as well as William Hurt.

      • True. And, as you said, I’m not entirely sure about Abel and Irons, but I’m willing to give them both a fair chance. I am really starting to look forward to this movie now.

  • Cumbertbatch

Andrew Niccol directing  Saoirse Ronan, William Hurt, Diane Kruger, Jake Abel and Max Irons. Now, no matter how one feels about the last two actors mentioned, to say this film is ruined is a bit nonsensical.

  • Salty

Very pleased with the casting choice.

  • Mmiles

Omg i just finished reading the host and it was great i cannnt wait 2 c the movie.

  • Susan Payne

She isn’t what I pictured at all after reading the book but I guess I am over my expectations of what I want.  She will be great I am sure!!

They haven’t follwed the book in any way when it comes to the casting. So, basically just another terrible casting choice! She’s a great actress, but not at all what the part should be.

Yes I realize it’s hard to follow the actors appearances pefectly from the book but its like there not even trying at all. The only casting I agree with so far is kinda who’s playing Mel, the boy playing jamie & the old man playing Jeb.

Wow.. I have really no idea how this movie will turn out now.. “The host” was my favorite book, and when i read that there was going to be a movie, I honestly jumped out off my bed with happiness, but now? I’m dissapointed. I can’t really put the actors they have chosen, exspesially Saorise, Jake and Max, into the posissons as Melanie, Jared and Ian. If Diana Kruger coloured her hair, she would probably make a better Mealnie.. What I did wrong ,though, was that I pictured somone else, and that has kind of ruined my thoughts about this movie.

    • Krüger as Mel? She’s way too old. And I think all the actors are perfect, if there’s one I’m not sure about, it’s Irons. But I think he’ll be great if we just give him a chance. And our movie has Diane f****** Krüger in it! That’s amazing!

Obviously some might be disappointed in casting choices,  I will admit that I cannot see Saoirse Ronan as Melanie yet but I LOVED her in Hanna, where she kicked some serious butt and I also love the GORGEOUS Diane Kruger (why does she have to be the Seeker =( boo ) And I also pictured Jared, Ian, Kyle etc…as more ragged, seriously big muscley guys. But honestly, with cast members such as Saoirse Ronan and Diane Kruger I can only imagine (also really hope) that this film will be great! And a huge success. We will always have the book and the characters in our minds no matter what! It’s a tradition of mine to read The Host every summer crying through 50% of it without fail and I don’t see that changing any time soon, even after the film.

    • ME TOO!! I don’t know if it’s because I read it for the
first time in the heat of summer, or what, but without fail I get on the sun
lounger, read it start to finish, and absolutely sob my heart out!! Lmao

when I read the book, the seeker was supost to be very short, very skinny, chin length black hair and was supost to be kinda od. How is a tall long laged model with long dirty blonde hair supposed to represent the Seeker in anyway? Just saying…
